Examples Of Humility In The Bible

The word of God gives us examples of humility and we get to know the results of being humble. It is known to us that God works in us while we humble our hearts before him. To see the examples of humility we need to go through the following characters who left the examples of humility.

Jesus The Perfect Example Of Humility

The man Jesus became the servant of God and went through severe persecution by His own people. Philippians 2 tells us how He took the form of man and made Himself empty and fulfilled the plan of God by shedding his own blood.

Jesus lived a humble life where He presented himself in a way that God desires us to live. He could have been shown His power and glory to those people who conspired against him and led him unto the cross. But He did not do so and remained faithful and humble till the fulfillment of his mission. Thus he teaches us a lesson to be humble and God will lift us up as a reward of humility.

Paul

The missionary works of Paul are well known and his conversion into Christianity also tells us that he was a man of humility. Once he was a proud man who was busy persecuting Christians but the moment he met Jesus, he was dramatically changed and put on the cloth of humility.

Moses

Moses played an important role to deliver the Jews from their bondage. He was obedient to God and made himself humble which resulted in him leading a great people from their bondage to a new land which the Lord prepared for them.

Though Moses found himself unworthy to lead such a great nation yet the Lord found humility and he prepared himself to bring his people out of Egypt. God uses us for his ministry when we submit our desires before his will and live a humble life.

David

David was well known for being a great warrior in his time. The journey of his life was not like other kings who were born and brought up in the king’s place but he started his journey as a shepherd.

The Lord prepared him by causing the death of a mighty man Goliath who showed terror before the children of Israel. David was a great king in his life, yet he was humble before the Lord. He always put God first in his life which shows that He lived a life of humility and thus the Lord was pleased over him.

Joseph

Joseph is the man who really endured all types of temptations in his life but his patience and faith in God led him to become a successful man in the end. His brothers sold him and he was worked as a slave in a foreign land. He was punished even when he did no sin to his master’s wife.

In the second half of his life, he reached the second-highest position of Egypt and when he met his brothers he did not take any revenge. His behavior towards his brothers was amazing. He had the mind of forgiveness and his love for his brothers and father was real. Thus he left an example of humble life that teaches us to wait upon the Lord in times of hardships and temptations.
