Bible is the guide for each of us that tells us what we should do and what we need to avoid to obtain grace from the mighty God. In the Bible, we find many instructions that make us worthy to walk with the Lord. We all should obey those instructions for our own benefit.
Often we ask in our hearts whether we are doing sin or not the moment we kill any animal. We dwell in an unanswered question that makes us worry. But we need to go deep into the scripture and we will get the answer that will assure us that killing animals does not make us sinners or there is no harm in killing animals. Let us examine some scriptures which will answer our query about killing animals.
We Should Not Murder Any Human
Exodus 20:13 “Thou shalt not kill”.
Simpl reading of this scripture says that we should not murder. And many readers just explain that we should not kill anyone. But the truth is that we should not murder a human being.
The ten commandments were given to the Jews where they were asked to put God first in every aspect of their lives and the last five commandments were given so they know how to treat a human being. This means that we should love our neighbors, parents and we must not murder any human being.
The context tells us that it was a commandment for the children of Israel not to slay humans but often many misunderstood it and make a negative meaning.
All The Creatures Can Be Taken As Food
Genesis 9:3 “Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.”
God has allowed man to eat all the things that he made for them. There was no limitation until the law came into the lives of Jews through God’s anointed people. The Lord gave freedom to man to eat animals as food.
We need to know that God created all the animals and birds for man’s sake. So we should not hesitate when we kill to eat.
Killing Man Is Not Allowed According To Scripture
Leviticus 24:21 “And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.”
The Jews were asked not to harm their neighbors. If any of them kill an animal he must restore it back but killing a man is not forgivable. He who kills a man deserves death as a penalty for his sin.
This makes us understand how God loves us and he made humans for his plan to execute. Killing animals is not queal will killing man. As God views this two differently so we should not say that killing animals is a sin or it’s not biblical.
God Created Only Man In His Image
Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and overall the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
The Lord created man in his own likeness and it should be noted that we are bearing the image of God. All of his creations were completed and at last, he made man. He also ordered them to reign over water, land, and sky. If we look around us we see that God’s word is true as man is ruling everything for his own sake.
God made Adam by his spirit and that is how we are different from other creatures. If we make ourselves equal with other animals then we will actually dishonor God. So we need to know our position before God and remembering that we must work wisely.
Jesus Allowed His Disciples To Catch Fish
The disciples of Jesus were frustrated as they did not catch a single fish while they spent enough time. But Jesus directed them where to cast the net and they did so. After which they gained a huge amount of fish in their net and they were unable to gather all. They called their friends so they might help them.
This incident tells us Jesus allowed his disciples to catch fish and the purpose is simple they catch the fish to sell and eat. If the Lord allows us to eat fish then we must not say anything against killing fish for our food.
John 21:6 “And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.”
John 21:13 “Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.”
Our Aim To Serve Christ Not Food
Romans 14:2 “For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.”
We are to be free from all kinds of rituals and traditions that the world practices. Our primary job is to satisfy God by obeying the teachings that he has given us for our salvation. In every step of our life we need to ask are we following Jesus or not. If we fail to obey his instructions we will lose our hope that is eternal life.
Our food does make any effect on our salvation so we must not think much about what we eat. Instead of focusing on our food, we are to give special attention to how are we walking with God. because our works and words will lead us to eternal destiny.
John Ate Locust And Honey
Matthew 3:4 “And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.”
John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus who came to prepare the way for Jesus. We see that he used to eat honey and wild locust for his food. He lived a different life from common people. God called him to use for announcing that the kingdom of God has come and he did so according to the will of God.
As he ate wild locust and honey for his food and the Lord did not hurt him. It is clear that the Lord sees our heart and he does not care what we eat.
Animals Spirits Go Below
Ecclesiastes 3:21 “Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?”
Animals are not like men so they will not stand before judgment. When they die, their spirits go down. But man’s spirit goes above. We are to stand before the judgment. We must know that we cannot do what we like to do.
But we have the freedom to eath here on this earth. Now we are living in the grace period where God had shown his grace and we are able to get our salvation through faith in Jesus.
