The Genealogy And The Bible Prophecies of Jesus Christ

Prophecies About Christ's Lineage

The genealogy of Jesus is recorded in Matthew from Abraham who was called by the Lord to be the father of many nations.

Abraham was the man whom the Lord promised to make a father of a great nation. He was the father of Isaac and the Lord continued his blessing with him as well. Isaac became the father of Jacob. Jacob had twelve sons and the Lord chose the line of Judah through which he had the plan to reveal himself before the world.

Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah. Again the Lord selected Perez to accomplish his plan and his son was Hezron. Hezron was the father of Ram.

Ram begot Amminadab and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon. Later on, Nahshon begot Salmon and he became the father of Boaz

Boaz became the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of great king David.  Later on, Solomon was the son of David and his mother was Uriah’s wife.

Solomon became the father of Rehoboam and he was the father of Abijah.

Abijah begets Asa who was the father of Jehoshaphat.

Jehoshaphat became the father of Jehoram. Jehoram was the father of Uzziah. Uzziah was the father of Jotham.

Jotham was the father of Ahaz. Ahaz became the father of Hezekiah. Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh. Manasseh begot Amon. Amon became the father of Josiah. Josiah was the father of Jeconiah. He and his brothers were taken captive in Babylon.

After the exile to Babylon

Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel and he was the father of Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the father of Abihud. Abihud begot Eliakim and Eliakim became the father of Azor. Azor was the father of Zadok. Zadok begot Akim and Akim was the father of Elihud.

Elihud begot Eleazar. Eleazar was the father of Matthan and Matthan begot Jacob.  Jacob was the father of Joseph, husband of Mary. Mary was the mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:2-16).

The genealogy of Jesus is recorded in Luke from Adam to the birth of Jesus.

The birth of Jesus was not an accident but it was predicted long years ago. When Adam and Eve sinned against the Lord, a great change occurred in human history.  The entire human race became corrupted due to their disobedience. But the Lord did not destroy this universe all of a sudden because he created it with a purpose. Though mankind failed to fulfill the will of God yet he had another plan to redeem his creation by taking birth in this world.  Many old testament passages clearly demonstrate that the birth of Jesus was pre-planned by the Lord.

Virgin Birth

The birth of Jesus was prophesied in the old testament. In (Genesis 3:15) we can see the prophecy concerning the birth of Jesus. As the Lord knows everything so we can say that he was aware of Adam’s disobedience in the garden of Eden.

That’s why he had the plan to incarnate on this earth from a virgin’s womb. This is the first prophecy that we can find in the Bible. There will be enmity between your seed and her seed. Here, her seed refers to Mary and the birth of Jesus.

This prophecy was fulfilled in the new testament while Jesus was born by the holy spirit.  Mary was conceived by the power of the holy spirit.

Line of Shem

The Lord blessed Noha while he was found righteous in his time. Noha had three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. After the flood, Noah engaged himself as a farmer in the land to produce crops.

One day, while he was drunk by wine Ham, saw that his father was naked. He called two of his brothers and their father’s nakedness. While woke up, he blessed Shem and cursed Ham.

He also proclaimed that blessed by the Lord of Shem which signifies that the lineage of Shem played a vital role in the coming of the Messiah.

Abraham

Abraham was one of the famous characters in the old testament. His father Terah was a pagan and in his time everyone had gone away from the Lord and they became the idols worshippers.

But the Lord had different plans in his mind. So he called Abraham to leave his home place and directed him towards Cannan.

Abraham did not know actually where he was moving forward. But he trusted the lord and decided to leave everything for the sake of God’s call. The Lord promised him that he will be the father of a great nation and from his seed, the entire families in the world will be blessed. This prophecy was fulfilled by the birth of Jesus. As Jesus was born for everyone on this earth.

Isaac

The Lord promised Abraham that he will be blessed by a son and the lord will continue his plan with that son. But Abraham and his wife Sarah were old but they could get that promised son. So, Sarah was disappointed and at that time the Lord appeared to Abraham and told him that by next year you will receive a son from Sarah’s womb.

It happened so Abraham and Sarah were blessed by Isaac.  The Lord told Sarah that with Isaac and his descendants he will establish his covenant.

The prophecies concerning the birth of Christ were revealed in the line of Isaac.

Jacob

Isaac married Rebekah when was forty years old. She was the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram. Isaac was depressed as his wife could not give birth to any child. He pleaded with the Lord to give them a child so that they can be blessed.

Isaac knew that with God everything is possible. He had a clear concept about his birth as his mother Sarah also was barren but the Lord brought him miraculously.

The Lord heard his prayer and granted him and as a result, Rebekah was conceived. While she was pregnant, a strange incident came to her. She found that inside her womb the children were struggling together. She approached the Lord to know the reason for it.

The Lord told her that there are two nations in her womb. She will give birth to two sons and they will be separated from each other to form two different nations. The younger one will rule the older one.

It happened so when Rebekah gave birth to twins. The first son had hairy skin and his name would be Esau. After him, Jacob came out at that time Isaac was sixty years old.

One Day while Jacob was sleeping, he dreamt a ladder was set up on the earth and its top reached heaven. Above the ladder, the Lord stood and promised him that his descendants will inherit the land where he slept. The Messianic line came through the seeds of Jacob as the Lord promised Abraham and Isaac earlier.

It was also foretold in the book of Numbers 24:17 which says that a star will come out of Jacob. He will crush the enemy.

The New Testament also confirms this prophecy concerning Jacob (Romans 9:10-13).

Judah

The nation of Israel was formed by the twelve sons of Jacob. Genesis 49:10 affirms that the Messiah will come from the tribe of Judah. It also says that the king will be a peacemaker. Upon his throne, the entire world will be obeyed. This verse also demonstrates the lineage of the Messiah.

Judah was the fourth son of Jacob and Leah. The line of Judah got the privilege to govern and was divinely elected. Through this tribe king, David came and finally Jesus the Messiah also arrived. God has a special purpose for this tribe.

David

The Lord called David while he was a shepherd to rule the people of Israel. 2Samuel 7:12-16 states that the Lord will establish his kingdom from the seed of David.

The kingdom will be established for the name of the Lord and the throne of it will remain forever. Here, the kingdom indicates the Messianic kingdom which will be governed by Christ.
